carrothead design - the "no-budget stand"
(for better understanding see "carrothead design-idea-floorplan.pdf")
A "no-budget stand" doesn´t mean to present a load of crap.
It means, to invest time and money on design, materials
and production of furniture in order to make them good enough
to stand for themselves - in "whatever"-surrounding.
So - usually, when I present my stuff on fairs,
I don`t have money for walls, extra floors, platforms etc.
The focus is on my products - improving them/flyers/managing etc.
c ontinuously and - very important - always showing sth. new!
Unfortunately, in the "Milan-case", there was not even left
any money to get a "whatever"-space.
That´s why I was quite excited, when I read about your competition,
as it seems the only chance for me, to show up in Milan:
my products:
pluggable furniture:
The "kitchen stool" (2007) stands for a complete table-series,
based on the same system as the shelvings
"around the corner"(2009) and "straight corner"(2010, brand new!).
All of them are cnc-cut and can be mounted easily, quickly
and without any tools
(max.1 min to de-/remount the stool - will be demonstrated)
carpet furniture (2009/2010):
A living room suite with seating-cushions, lounger and coffee-table -
newly presented at the designers fair in Cologne 2010.
The haptic and optic of felt carpet and massive wood,
preferably sitting close to the ground,
and a new-interpretation of upholstery
were the facts that lead to this series.
They provide the needed distance to the floor, to sit comfortably,
for ex. to chat with friends or to play with kids.
Beside that you can step on them without bad conscience
and even get a foot massage.
All products on show can be tried-out,
as it´s the only way to convince people of their qualities.
lighting:
re-combined "street-found" lamp-parts with reflectorlamps -
unique objects, providing the needed light
nothing will be mounted on the ceiling or at the walls
walls and ceiling:
guess they are white?
I´ll keep them as they are - or react spontaneously
floor:
a "hard" floor (wood, stone, lino...) would be best -
if not - might work as well.
The "old oriental rug" creates an island for the carpet furniture
and guides the visitors visually and practically.
It sections the room into a middle zone and a surrounding
walking-zone with the pluggable pieces.
Of course - It´s allowed to step on the rug - some will - some won´t
diverse:
material samples, flyers, business cards,...
multimedia via my laptop
small logo on window/door ?
finally:
So far, I do all my designs beside a fulltime job -
in the evenings, weekends and vacations (for fairs).
I guess there might be no better opportunity/way/reason to get kicked
into a fulltime designers life, as everybody told me,
the only way to get there is to be (presented) in Milan.
